Letter to Aubrey Plaza

Kia Ora* Aubrey Plaza

My name is Eamonn Marra and I am from Christchurch, New Zealand. You are my second favourite female comedian after Maria Bamford, I think I prefer your comedy style though. My current goal in life is to clock FreeCell. In Windows XP it gives you one million possible games (or levels as I like to think of them). I have worked out if I win 34 games a day for the next 80 years I will be able to achieve this goal. I’m sure with technological advances and keeping healthy I will be able to live to 101. I’d like to have a better goal than this but I am not sure what direction to take. I’d like to think I am a creative person but I haven’t found my niche yet. I write, play music, sometimes draw comics but I have never really been successful in anything. The most successful I have been is in poetry, I have made two self released poetry zines (I can send these to you if you want) and had a poem published in a small anthology. My poems are however very angsty and I don’t think I want to be that type of person anymore. I think I would like to go into comedy because my friends often laugh at what I say. I’m not sure if I am actually funny or if what I say is just alienating and self deprecating and people don’t know how to react, so they laugh. Is there even a difference between that and being funny? What do you think I should do? I think my biggest hurdle to becoming successful is that I am terrified of rejection or failure, so I don’t work very hard at things I care about because I don’t think I could handle it if they turned out to not be very good.

Also I have a question for you about yourself; would you rather be a super famous celebrity that is in hit film after hit film and is on the cover of gossip magazines or more cult famous, where a lot of people like you but you aren’t known by the general population?

Thanks,

Eamonn Marra

P.S. If you don't want to actually write back to me physically you can email me eamonnmarra@gmail.com
